Pathways to Funding for Organizations of Persons with Disabilities

A landscape review of the sources, barriers and opportunities in funding for organizations of persons with disabilities in low- and middle-income countries. WESOFOD-SL was one of eight partner OPDs and convened 18 OPD leaders, contributing to published guidance on improving access to funding.

Livelihoods & Climate Justice

MI-Chance to work and grow together: building empowered communities

Improved quality of life for persons with disabilities in Kambia and Port Loko through livelihoods, inclusive education and community support. The project introduced the Survival Garden Model, combining traditional and modern farming with tools adapted for farmers with disabilities. Over 50 households gain improved livelihoods and 7,200 community members better access to clean water and local produce. MI-Chance also funded the national disability inclusion training for 50 youth activists.

Village of Hope Pujehun — TEC-VOC vocational skills centre

An accessible vocational training centre extending the Village of Hope model to Pujehun District, offering tailoring, soap-making and bead-making to young people and women with disabilities. The Denise Harris Skills Training and Production Centre was commissioned under this project.

Small Scale Enterprise Development for Persons with Disabilities

Seventy people with and affected by disabilities trained in soap-making, weaving and shoe-making at the Sunday Foundation Skills Training and Production Centre, graduating with certificates of completion at the project close ceremony in February 2024.

Inclusive Health

PSRHPD — Saving Lives Sierra Leone

Sexual and reproductive health and rights for persons with disabilities: community health talks, capacity strengthening of health workers and adaptation of health facilities so that services can actually be reached and used. A separate programme from PUSH.

Inclusive Health

PUSH — Promoting Universal Sexual and Reproductive Health

A 40-day youth-led initiative in Kambia District improving access to sexual and reproductive health information and services for young people, particularly young people with disabilities. Inclusive SRH training for youth activists, engagement with healthcare workers, community health dialogues, school sessions and a three-week digital campaign tackled cultural taboos and stigma.

Residential Rehabilitation Centre (RRC)

A safe, supportive and inclusive home for children with disabilities from remote, underserved and deprived communities where education and essential services are hard to reach. Holistic support covers education, rehabilitation, healthcare referrals, psychosocial support, livelihood preparation and daily care.
